Enhancing planning outcomes for community through local and state government collaboration
Problem
Hobsons Bay City Council faced challenges in their digital planning services due to the lack of integration with state government systems.
This gap led to manual handling, duplicate data processing and security issues that resulted in delays, errors and frustrations for planners and community members.
Solution
Funding from the Digital Planning Grants program allowed the council to establish a full integration between their statutory planning application system and the state government’s PPARS and SPEAR systems.
Grant funding also supported the delivery of a new user-friendly digital customer portal with smart forms and fee guidance.
Benefits
The integration of local and state government planning systems together with the new customer portal has boosted internal efficiencies, improved data accuracy, and enhanced the customer experience, benefiting both council staff and the community.
These benefits will extend further to other Victorian councils, who will be able to leverage the new framework initiated by Hobsons Bay City Council.
