Background
Proponent: Australian Zircon NL/ Murray Zircon PL
Australian Zircon NL/ Murray Zircon Pl proposes to develop the 12,850 hectare WIM150 mineral sands deposit in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Horsham and just north of the Grampians National Park.
Process
EES on hold
The proponent has formally advised the department to place the EES process on hold for the WIM150 Mineral Sands Project.
Work on the EES is not being undertaken as the proponent is working through a review of the project before recommencing the EES process.
Minister's reason for decision
On 23 December 2011 the Minister for Planning requested Australian Zircon NL to prepare an Environmental Effects Statement (EES) under the Environment Effects Act 1978 to assess the potential environmental effects of the project:
Scoping requirements
The Scoping Requirements set out the matters to be investigated and documented in the EES.
- August – 7 September 2012: draft Scoping Requirements for the EES were placed on public exhibition
- December 2012: the Minister for Planning issued final Scoping Requirements for the EES after considering public submissions on the Draft Scoping
Consultation plan
Australian Zircon NL prepared a Stakeholder and Community Engagement Plan that outlines the opportunities for community engagement during the preparation of the EES.
